The Internet and the Multimedia Applications as a Possible Teaching Instrument at Basic Schools

This presentation is about general possibilities of using the Internet and the modern information technologies in teaching at basic schools as a reaction to the situation when the computer has become a natural part of our everyday lives. The ability to operate the computer is a part of present time literacy. The use of computers touches upon a wide range of activities in everybody’s life. The centre of teachers’ interest lies in the activities connected to pupils’ education. It is not only in students' free time when we talk about the use of the computer for his/her self-education or school preparation but also the use of the computer directly in the class.

The presentation also mentions the government project INDOŠ (The Internet to schools) directed within the framework of ” The Conception of the State Information Policy in Education” and its benefit for basic schools. It is aimed at a new role of the teacher who becomes the pupil’s Internet guide and it describes the present state of interaction in the relation teacher – pupil – Internet. The qualities of the modern Internet, which is the inexhaustible source of information, can be characterised by these three key words: multimedia, interactive and accessible.

The presentation describes these modern qualities in general and shows their use in education process at basic schools in terms of direct improvement of learning process and placing the Internet among the supplementary materials.
